Lauren Scopaz, Board Chair

is the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Harlem Children's Zone (HCZ), a New York City based non profit with a holistic approach to rebuilding a community so that its children can stay on track through college and onto the job market. She is currently managing a $100M project to build a new charter school/community facility for HCZ in a unique partnership with the New York City Housing Authority. Lauren developed a passion for cycling when she led a European bicycle touring trip for high school students after graduating college. She subsequently led two additional biking trips: across the United States and in Alaska. She also took a stab at racing with HUCA (Harvard University’s Cycling Team) while earning her MBA. Now, she loves biking for its freedom, challenge, exercise, and transportation. Lauren's involvement in CYCLE Kids started in the spring of 2004 when CYCLE Kids was still just an idea in the Founder and Executive Director, Julie Idlet's head. She volunteered and taught in two of the first pilot programs in Somerville, MA and is now excited to help CYCLE Kids grow. Lauren lives in Stamford, CT with her husband Derek and two young sons, Brayden and Devon. She holds a BA in Engineering Sciences from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
