H-E-B Grocery Company and the Corpus Christi Cycling Club sponsor the Mathis Intermediate School to be awarded a CYCLE Kids program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CYCLE Kids is thrilled to kick off a program in Mathis Intermediate School to provide their students with the education they need to lead active, healthy lifestyles.

Mathis, TX (October 8, 2014) – CYCLE Kids, Inc., a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lifestyles for youth and families, is delighted about the collaboration between the Corpus Christi Cycle Club, H-E-B, and the Mathis Intermediate School that has brought a CYCLE Kids  program to the school’s 4th and 5th grade students.  CYCLE Kids, a national organization that educates students on bike skills, safety, and nutrition, has 39 programs, in 8 states across the country with an annual reach of 3,500 children.

Founded in 2004 by Julianne Idlet, CYCLE Kids is a unique program that uses the bicycle as the vehicle to teach the importance of adopting healthy, active lifestyles to children and their families. The curriculum teaches students riding skills, bike maintenance, and road safety. In addition, the curriculum provides children with practical nutritional skills based on their existing knowledge. Students learn skills they can apply to their every day lives such as what foods to consume to fuel their body and how to balance a meal.

Through the CYCLE Kids program, kids develop healthy lives, build new skills and confidence, form new ties with classmates, and make positive connections with mentors as well as their community. As a  past student of the CYCLE Kids program said, “CYCLE Kids helps kids who don’t do a lot of exercise like to exercise, which is important for your health and body. To use bikes as a form of exercise is fun and safe to do. I also taught my family members everything I learned at the CYCLE Kids program and now they use the knowledge when they ride.”

CYCLE Kids Founder & Executive Director, Julianne Idlet, is delighted to be reaching more children through this new program, “I am overjoyed to kick off a CYCLE Kids program at Mathis Intermediate School in Mathis, Texas. It’s very exciting to see such enthusiasm from the community and I’m thrilled to add them to the CYCLE Kids family.”

CYCLE Kids has partnered with the Corpus Christi Cycling Club since 2013, when they raised funds to open a CYCLE Kids program in Corpus Christi, TX. Since then, the club has raised funds to open two more CYCLE Kids programs in Alice, TX and most recently the program at the Mathis Intermediate School. To bring the program to Mathis, Ken Ham, the President of the Corpus Christi Cycling Club, was successfully awarded a grant from the H-E-B grocery company’s Community Investment Program. Mathis Intermediate School and administrators are so thankful to H-E-B for this opportunity and are very excited to bring the CYCLE Kids program to their students.

On October 8th, there will be a celebration at Mathis Intermediate School to kick off the CYCLE Kids program and applaud the collaborate effort of the Mathis community. The celebration is sure to be a festive atmosphere with the Mayor of Mathis, an H-E-B representative, law enforcement, news representatives, the Corpus Christi Cycling Club, and Mathis City Council members expected to be in attendance. During the ceremony, the generosity of H-E-B will be acknowledged with an oversized check unveiling, and bikes will be brought in as a surprise to the students.
